Since I was a kid, I dreamed of traveling the world. Having parents that used to travel a lot for work played a big part in those dreams. I used to imagine where were they traveling to, what type of people they were meeting, etc.

I’m Dessy from Bulgaria and when I turned 9 my parents move to Spain and started a new life there. At the age of 23, I became a flight attendant which was my dream job. Most people think that flight attendants travel a lot, and in part is true, but for me being 24-48 hours in a city wasn’t exactly the definition of traveling and neither was enough. But It is true that thanks to my job I had amazing ticket discounts to travel the world in my time off, and so I did.

My first overseas trip was to Australia. I backpacked solo around “Down Under” for a month at the age of 24 and that trip completely changed me and the way I see life. I met amazing people on the road, lived incredible experiences, had a taste of what freedom looks like as I could do and go wherever I wanted and change my plans as many times I wanted. And the most important thing, I learned so much about myself.

After that, many more trips came. I traveled solo around the globe, had unforgettable experiences and made friends all over the world.

After 12 years working as a flight attendant I quit my job as it wasn’t fulfilling anymore. Every day I had this empty feeling knowing that I wasn’t living the life I wanted. I also felt for a long time that the place I was living just wasn’t for me. Is true what they say that once the “travel bug” bites you, there is no way back. When you start traveling on your own there is one thing that happens to everybody. You go back home and realize that everybody and everything remain the same than when you left, but you have changed so much. And when you start feeling this way is very difficult to keep having a “normal” life. You just dream of more travels and more adventures.

So after quitting my job, I (Dessy) flew to Vietnam where more adventures were waiting for me. And then the most unexpected thing happened. I met the love of my life. I keep thinking that I just met him at the right moment of my life. He lives in Australia wich has been my dream country since I first visited it years ago, where everything started…Now a new life awaits for me there by his side but that will happen at the end of this year as right now I’m living in Moscow, Russia where I will stay for half a year using most of my savings to learn Russian and to explore the country on my free time. Why Russian? Why not?

Since I started traveling I have been trying to encourage other women to get out of their comfort zone and explore this beautiful world. There is more life out there than boys, shopping and saving money for an apartment or for an uncertain future. I think nowadays most of the women are afraid of doing things on their own, especially traveling. There is no better feeling than the feeling of freedom added to the power you feel when you realize you don’t need anyone to feel and be happy but yourself. There is nothing like knowing yourself and knowing how to make yourself happy. Don’t take me wrong, is amazing to have your family and beloved ones around, but you don’t need anyone to do what you want to do. And as I always say, if you keep waiting for people to do what you want to do, you will waste your life waiting.

Believe me when I (Dessy) say that the world is beautiful and there are friendly and amazing people willing to help you and share with you, their life and culture everywhere you go.
